What's New 

Have any changes been made to the Gold Circle Awards nomination forms this year?

Outside of limiting the maximum number of years in the commercial real estate industry for nominees in the Emerging Leaders of the Year to seven (previously ten years), this year's forms reflect changes that were made in past years based on participant and member feedback, which include: 

  • Eliminated requirement to submit a personal statement for all categories
  • Reduced two (2) required letters of reference to one (1) for Property Manager of the Year and Affiliate of the Year categories
  • Changed requirement for Personal Bio and Resume to Personal Bio or Resume
  • Required three years of experience for Emerging Leader of the Year category

Who oversees the Gold Circle Awards Process?

BOMA/Chicago’s Communications Committee conducts a regular review of the nomination forms and overall process each year.

When are nominations due?

Nominations are generally accepted in September and October of each year. Specific dates are posted on the main Gold Circle Awards pagecloser in August.

Is there an application fee?

There is no application fee to participate.

Does the Affiliate of the Year Award recognize the individual or the company?

The Affiliate of the Year Award recognizes an individual employed by an Affiliate Member company.

Gold Circle Awards Selection Committee

Who serves on the Gold Circle Award Selection Committee?

The Gold Circle Award Selection Committee is comprised of one representative each from fifteen to twenty management companies with the most members, and includes a BOMA/Chicago Board member. A minimum of three committee members are assigned to the judging panel for each category.

Gold Circle Award nominees are not eligible to serve on the Gold Circle Award Selection Committee.

How are judging conflicts handled?

Each of the five award categories is assigned three or more judge panelists to review nominees and interview finalists. Judges for each category will be selected to avoid conflicts of interest because of company or building affiliations.

Can nominators prepare nominees for interviews?

Nominators are encouraged to help prepare nominees for interviews. Please note judging criteria which aligns with nomination questions for each category, which is listed below.

What criteria are used to judge nominees and finalists?

Each award category is judged based on predetermined, weighted criteria as indicated below:

Building Engineer:

  •   5%   Involvement in Commercial Real Estate Industry (including BOMA/Chicago)
  • 20%   Achievement of exceptional results in building preventive maintenance and repair
  • 15%   Participation in engineering-focused training and/or educational development programs
  • 20%   Achievement of tenant satisfaction
  • 20%   Achievement of professional accomplishments
  •   5%   TOBY Awards Assistance and Peer Review
  •   5%   Bio or Resume
  •   5%   Recommendation Letter
  •   5%   Overall impression

Emerging Leader

  •   5%   Involvement in Commercial Real Estate Industry (including BOMA/Chicago)

How much weight is involvement with BOMA/Chicago given for each award?

BOMA/Chicago involvement is incorporated into the “Involvement in Commercial Real Estate Industry”criteria ranging from 5 to 10% of the overall score for each category. Note that commercial real estate industry involvement includes industry, civic, community and/or philanthropic, not just BOMA/Chicago.
