What's New

Have any changes been made to the Gold Circle Awards nomination forms?

In 2019, two major changes were implemented:

  • Addition of a new Gold Circle Award: Janitorial Professional of the Year
  • Changing required years of experience in the commercial real estate industry to five years of less (previously three to seven) for the Emerging Leader of the Year Award

Additional changes that were made include:

  • Requesting building information on nomination forms, such as building size, age, staff size and number of tenants
  • Removing "Overall Impression" (previously weighted at 5%) from the judging criteria for Building Engineer of the Year and Security Director of the Year, and redistributing as follows:
    • For Building Engineer of the Year, redistributed 5% to "Achievement of Exceptional Results"
    • For Security Director of the Year, redistributing 5% to "Demonstration of Leadership"

Who oversees the Gold Circle Awards Process?

BOMA/Chicagoā€™s Communications Committee conducts a regular review of the nomination forms and overall process each year.

Where can I find the nomination forms?

During the nomination period, you can view and download the nomination forms on theĀ Gold Circle Nomination ProcessĀ page.

When are nominations due?

Nominations are generally accepted in September and October of each year. The specific nomination period timeline is posted on the mainĀ Gold Circle Nomination ProcessĀ page in September of each year.

Is there an application fee?

There is no application fee to participate.

Does the Affiliate of the Year Award recognize the individual or the company?

The Affiliate of the Year Award recognizes an individual employed by an Affiliate Member company.

Gold Circle Awards Selection Committee

Who serves on the Gold Circle Award Selection Committee?

The Gold Circle Award Selection Committee is comprised of one representative each from fifteen to twenty management companies with the most members, and includes a BOMA/Chicago Board member. A minimum of three committee members are assigned to the judging panel for each category.

Gold Circle Award nominees are not eligible to serve on the Gold Circle Award Selection Committee.

How are judging conflicts handled?

Each of the five award categories is assigned three or more judge panelists to review nominees and interview finalists. Judges for each category will be selected to avoid conflicts of interest because of company or building affiliations.

Can nominators prepare nominees for interviews?

Nominators are encouraged to help prepare nominees for interviews. Please note judging criteria which aligns with nomination questions for each category, which is listed below.

What criteria are used to judge nominees and finalists?

Each award category is judged based on predetermined, weighted criteria as indicated below:

How much weight is involvement with BOMA/Chicago given for each award?

BOMA/Chicago involvement is incorporated into the ā€œInvolvement in Commercial Real Estate Industryā€ criteria ranging from 5 to 10% of the overall score for each category. Note that commercial real estate industry involvement includes industry, civic, community and/or philanthropic, not just BOMA/Chicago.
