2011 Security Professional of the Year Donna Kobzaruk
Donna Kobzaruk, Midwest Region Manager at JPMorgan Chase & Co, Global Security and Military Affairs, was named 2011 Security Professional of the Year.
How did you get involved in the security industry? It was all through networking. I kept in contact with a security manager who I worked with on past cases. I ran into him at an airport, of all places. He had an investigator position available and asked if I was interested. So I moved from my retail position to an investigator, became an investigations manager, then transitioned to physical security.
Throughout your membership with BOMA/Chicago, what experiences stand out the most to you? BOMA/Chicago, in particular the Emergency Preparedness Committee, has opened the door to public official contacts that I may have never experienced. For example, I know the Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) Executive Director and Chicago’s Fire Commissioner on a first name basis.
What concerns do your tenants voice the most in regard to security? There’s a constant struggle to maintain security yet have minimal inconvenience to tenants and/or visitors.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go? I’ve been to New York City many times, but I’d love to visit the more laid-back (rural) areas of the state.
What do you do for fun when you’re not working? I’m an avid reader. I also love to paint and spend time with my dogs.
