Democratic National Convention Resources

The Democratic National Convention (DNC) will take place from Monday, August 19 to Thursday, August 22, with approximately two weeks of setup beforehand and one week of teardown of security measures afterward. The larger evening events will be hosted at the United Center, while the McCormick Center West will host daytime activities. Smaller events will occur around the city, impacting over 40 hotels with varying levels of security based on attendees.

Approximately 50,000 people, including 20,000 media personnel, will attend the convention. Road closures will occur during motorcade movements to ensure safe passage, to minimize community impact. Specific details regarding road closures, perimeters, and other impacts will be released in mid-July. The OEMC will communicate updates and closures to businesses and residents. Public transportation will be affected, with people flying into O’Hare and Midway and motorcades to the city causing street closures that impact buses, taxis, and rideshares. Metra and Metra Electric services will also be impacted based on the event's location.

DNC Toolkit includes FAQs, maps, communication information, and more.

The Democratic National Convention website can be found here.

A one-pager of considerations for Commercial Office Buildings in preparation for the DNC can be found here.

The BOMA/Chicago Security Best Practices Library provides property management teams with a wide range of security documents that would transition well into the policy and procedure work already completed. Each document addresses a security or life safety situation commonly faced in commercial office buildings that can be considered (and customized) when drafting site-specific response plans.

Emergency Operations Center volunteers are needed. The City of Chicago Emergency Operations Center is activated for large-scale events, including Memorial Day, NASCAR, Pride Parade, and the Democratic National Convention, and staffed by public and private members.
