Education & Professional Development

Training members to remain competitive in this challenging industry by offering timely, affordable and wide-ranging educational and professional development programs is what we do every day and since 1902 when a small group of property owners and managers began sharing ideas and best practices with each other.

The same holds true today as many of our instructors are members with incomparable industry expertise and years of experience, working on the front lines and privy to the latest and most effective business innovations providing ‘real-life’ and cutting-edge industry-specific education.

Over 50 educational programs are offered each year at convenient Downtown locations, delivered in interactive formats that incorporate adult-learning methodology and organized in ways that increase skill sets with minimum disruption to attendee’s busy work schedules. Whether it’s a lunch time update on a code change or a morning or evening seminar on the latest business practices related to sustainability, security, LEED certification, emergency preparedness, or asset management – BOMA/Chicago delivers knowledge and information that can be immediately applied on the job.

In addition to our partnerships with affiliates, unions and USGBC-Illinois offering courses that show building operators and tenants how to run more efficient and healthy workplaces, our close working relationships with BOMA International and BOMI International allow us to provide courses required to earn the industry’s highest regarded and most respected designations and certifications like the Real Property Administrator (RPA) and Facilities Management Administrator (FMA) Designations.  Members develop skills and enhance knowledge through courses in subjects like leasing and marketing, budgeting and accounting, law and risk management, real estate investment and finance, ethics, and environmental health and safety.

Education is more important than ever during tough economic times – studies have shown industry professionals who hold designations and certifications are hired more often and earn higher salaries than those that don’t continue to learn and develop. It’s a catch 22, since tougher economic times make it more difficult to afford quality education.  BOMA/Chicago strives to continually offer highly discounted rates to members to attend quality education programs.  We also offer scholarships through the BOMA/Chicago Foundation.  Professionals on track to receive the RPA or FMA Designations can earn scholarships to offset education costs.

BOMA/Chicago’s education program has grown significantly since our creation over a century ago and the need for continuing education is growing stronger. To help members sharpen skills and stay ahead of the competition, BOMA/Chicago developed a 24/7, online tool that houses all educational programs, information and resources called the ‘Professional Development Center.’ Members have an all-access pass to the Professional Development Center which can be found quickly and easily by clicking on the clearly marked direct link on the BOMA/Chicago website.
