TOBY Awards
The Office Building of the Year (TOBY) Award is one of the most prestigious and comprehensive programs of its kind in the commercial real estate industry. The objective of the TOBY awards is to recognize excellence in building management, operational efficiency, tenant retention, emergency planning and community impact.
The competition begins with the local BOMA/Chicago awards. One winner from each category will be announced at the January 2010 Awards Celebration. Chicago winners go on to compete in the North Central Region (Illinois Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky) TOBY Awards in early March and April 2010. To enter the Regional Awards program, a very detailed overview of the building must be submitted electronically. Access to complete an electronic submission will be provided to the buildings which win BOMA/Chicago TOBY Awards.
The Regional winners compete in the international competition. The winners of the International TOBY Awards will be announced at the 2010 BOMA International Conference in Long Beach, California on Tuesday evening, June 27, 2010. Buildings may enter in the following categories:
- Earth Award
- Under 100, 000 Square Feet
- 100,000 - 249,000 Square Feet
- 250,000 - 499,000 Square Feet
- 500,000 - 1 Million Square Feet
- Over 1 Million Square Feet
- Renovated Building
- Historical Building
- Corporate Facility
- Government Building
- Medical Office Building
- Suburban Office Park - Mid- Rise (1-5 stories)
- Suburban Office Park - Mid- Rise (6-10 stories)
- Industrial Office Park

Registration for the 2011 TOBY Awards will open in the summer of 2010. BOMA/Chicago Members will receive notification.
